Chilling Out With My Fave Movies

This weekend I had such a chilled movie binge and I totally loved it. I did have plans initially, but I'm so glad I took the time to myself. Popcorn, candles and time to think was just what I needed.

It can often feel like saying no to plans that will give you a better story to tell on Monday, or allow you to update your Instagram with snaps that make you look super fun is a bit of a poor show, but if there is one thing I've learnt recently, its that it's better to say no than to not give your best self when you're with people. We all know how exhausting it can be, catching yourself barely listening to conversations, letting your mind drift, or stifling yawns and the temptation to just curl up and snooze.

I've also had a couple of really busy weekends lately, and taking the time to relax and catch up with my thoughts has been really nice. There is a lot going on, with friends, work, planning ahead etc, and taking the down time has been just what the doctor ordered.

Because I had time to myself I also wanted to share some of my fave go to movies, think pro-women, calming and empowering.

Wild
Reese Witherspoon knocks it out in the park with this one. Based on a true story, Reese plays Cheryl Stayed, when she takes herself out into the Pacific Coast Trail, walking 1,100 miles to help clear her head and come to terms with some of her internal issues. Def a great one to watch when you clear your head.

Eat.Pray.Love
I think I've mentioned my love for this movie before. It lights a flame of possibility, not that I necessarily want to pack in my life and run away, but the possibility of travel and experiences and throwing yourself into something whole-heartedly and not knowing what you'll get back.

Mama Mia
Who doesn't love an uplifting movie, full of love, happiness and one of the most beautiful Greek settings ever. Every time I watch it, it makes me really happy, which is funny as on paper it's not something I would usually watch, but it literally is happiness coming out your TV.

Mad Max
I'm a real fan of action movies, and Charlize Theron in this movie personifies a strong and powerful woman. It's not about love, it's about survival, (similar to Wild I guess) but she can kick ass, there is great tension in the movie, and when you're in the mood is a great one to switch on.

Blended
I love a good Adam Sandler flick, he's done a couple that have just got it so right and him and Drew Barrymore are golden in Blended. It's easy to watch, simple but funny storyline and about sharing experiences and expertise, as well as finding love obv.

Heartbreak Kid
Now I confess that I don't actually love this movie, Ben Stiller is OK in it, but it's kinda a movie of two halves. However that doesn't really matter as when I'm having a hard time sleeping, this is always my go to. I never really watch more than the first 15 mins, and after that I can close my eyes and keep up with it, up until the point I fall asleep. This actually means I've only watched the whole movie once all the way through, but I love how I can just go to sleep with it.

I Love You, Man
This movie is still able to make me laugh out loud after watching it millions of times. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel have the best comic timing ever. It came on TV this weekend and although I didn't intend on watching it, I couldn't help it and it totally cheered my evening up. When I'm in the mood for simple comedy, this is def a good choice!
